David R. Bywaters, CMC
David R. Bywaters has been with Lawrence-Leiter and Company for over 25 years as Consultant, Vice President, and is currently President. He directs studies involving market analysis, member surveys, long-range planning, financial planning and operations analysis for volunteer and non-profit organizations. He has worked with hundreds of trade associations, professional societies and social service organizations in various consulting capacities.
He has written numerous articles for professional and association related publications. He co authored monographs for the Foundation of the American Society for Association Executives on How to Conduct Association Surveys and
Information: A Limitless Resource for Associations. Mr. Bywaters has published numerous articles over the years for Association and Society Manager, Association Trends and Association Management magazines. His article “Total Marketing: An Approach for the Future” was presented as a cover story in Association and Society Manager and led to an appointment to the publication’s Editorial Advisory Board.
He has assisted numerous associations, societies, non profits and professional organizations in developing near term and long range plans. For the most part, these plans have been written by the executives and boards responsible for carrying them out under the systematic guidance and direction of Mr. Bywaters.
In addition to the consulting experience with Lawrence Leiter and Company, he was with Arthur Young and Company in their management services division for three years. Clients served included manufacturing, service and distribution companies.
Mr. Bywaters’ consulting experience also includes strategic planning and other consulting work with large companies as well as small business. He has assisted financial institutions, utilities and professional firms with long range planning and marketing research and analysis. He authored a management column for The Kansas City Business Journal, designed to advise business executives for five years.
Mr. Bywaters has a B.S. degree in Industrial Administration from Yale University School of Engineering. He has taken graduate courses in business and corporate law. He is a founding member of the Institute of Management Consultants and is a Certified Management Consultant. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Greater Kansas City YMCA Foundation of Mid-America and D.H. Pace Company. He served as Chairman of the Board of Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Kansas City for eight years and John Knox Village for two years.
